The Gwili Railway, in Carmenthshire, South Wales, are looking to raise £100,000 to help rebuild bridges and to clear the disused line from Danycoed Halt to Llapumsaint.
Who is the Gwili Railway?
The Gwili Railway are a standard gauge heritage railway in Carmarthenshire, South Wales. The heritage railway is run by the Gwili Preservation Society and Volunteers. The railway runs from the site of Abergwili Junction to Bronwydd Arms in South Wales. The railway runs on a short section of the Carmarthen to Aberystwyth line, which closed in 1965.
What is the future plans for development?
Firstly, the railway also wants to upgrade their current site. Upgrades to car parking situations at both Bronwydd Arms and Llwyfan Cerrig Stations are hoped to be completed. Catering options are also hoped to be upgraded.
The railway has already extended the line to Abergwili Junction. It is intended that they will build a state of the art visitors centre. This will enable them to have a tourist attraction where families will be able to visit. The centre will have features such as covered areas for the children to play and museum displays as well as a Coffee shop.
Who will be carrying out the work at the Gwili Railway?
The volunteers will be carrying out the work for free and the railway will not be receiving charity funding or government aid. Everyone who donates and/or travels on the railway will keep the railway running and help them to meet their dreams of extension.
