Last year (2016) was a massive year for the . The Tywyn based Narrow Gauge Steam Railway held their final 150 Birthday Celebrations.

Later in the year, they saw a rise of 60% on their Santa Specials bookings. Which meant two extra trains were steamed up the line. Mince Pie Specials were also popular and bookings were also up on past years.

To top it all off, the Talyllyn Railway has also seen an increase of passenger numbers throughout the year. Over 45,000 people travelled on the steam railway, a 4% increase during the year, it is the biggest number of passengers the railway has seen in some time.

General manager Tracey Parkinson, said: “These results are most encouraging coming as the result of some new marketing initiatives which we intend to develop in the coming years. The results for the Santa Specials were particularly encouraging, and we intend to run more of them in 2017.”
