History of the Corris Railway

The Corris Railway runs from the village of Corris along the Dulas Valley to the railway works at Maespoeth in Mid Wales, UK. The original Corris Railway opened in 1859 and ran from Derwenlas (South East of Machynlleth) onto Aberllefenni via Corris. The railway served the quarries (slate) at Corris and Aberllefenni.

The railway closed in 1948, but in 1966 the Corris Preservation Society was formed in 1966, with initially just the museum being opened before a short section of track was laid between Corris and Maespoeth.
