This weeks Throwback Thursdays sees us in the Capital of the UK as we see a Class 350 (No. 350248) and a Class 378 (No. 378233) at London Euston.
No. 350248 was on a London Midland service from London Euston to Milton Keynes Central. No. 378233 was on a London Overground service from London Euston to Watford Junction.
London Euston
London Euston is a railway station in the Capital of the United Kingdom. The station is run by Network Rail and is on the West Coast Mainline. The West Coast Mainline runs from London Euston to Glasgow Central via Hemel Hempstead, Watford, Milton Keynes, Crewe, Preston and Carlisle. London Euston is the sixth busiest station in the UK
History
London Euston was the first railway station in the Capital, it was opened in 1837 as the terminus of the London & Birmingham Railway. The original building was demolished in the 1960s and was replaced with the modern style we see today. The site of the station was chosen by George and Robert Stephenson, the engineers of the L&BR. The area was originally farmland on the edge of the city.
Many companies have owned London Euston. The first was the London & Birmingham Railway (1837-1845), followed by the London and North Western Railway (1846-1922), London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) (1923-1947), British Rail (1948-1994), RailTrack (1994-2001), Network Rail (2001-Present).
