East Lancs Railway – Spring Steam Gala 2016

This video shows our recent visit to the East Lancs Railway and see the railway celebrate its annual Spring Steam Gala.

The locomotives featured are:

No. 34092 ‘City of Wells'

City of Wells at Irwell Vale

This locomotive is visiting the East Lancs Railway from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway in Yorkshire. It is a main stay at both railways. City of Wells wears the Golden Arrow Livery and when the locomotive was completed, it went to London and was regularly used on high end duties such as the “Golden Arrow” boat train between London and Dover.

No. 13065 ‘The Crab'

No. 13065 at Summerseat

This locomotive is the last surviving working of its type, you can see a preserved model at the Shildon Locomotion Museum, but the East Lancs Railway has the last working locomotive of this type.

 

 

BR Black 5 No. 44871

No. 44871 at Irwell Vale

This locomotive is owned and run by Ian Riley & Son Ltd, and was restored back to use in 2008. It is also fit to run on the mainline with AWS, TPWS being fitted in the restoration. It is also fitted with air brakes. It is used on the regularly, and supported the Flying Scotsman when in visited in January 2016.

 

No. 32 ‘Gothenburg'

Gothenburg at Ramsbottom

Built in 1903, ‘Gothenburg' was built and used for the Manchester Ship Canal Co. and was used for carrying goods from nearby industrial estates, including Trafford Park, and connect to the various railway companies near the canal.

 

 



No. 80080 at Rawtenstall

Built in 1954, this BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4 Tank is not a resident loco at the East Lancs Railway, its home is at the Midland Railway, in Butterly. These locomotives were known for their commuter services out of London and wasn't known on the western lines.
