On the weekend of 4-5 July 2015, I visited the Talyllyn Railway in Tywyn. There was a special event on, Talyllyn 150, the railway became 150 years old!
To celebrate, they put on an intensive timetable. The railway had Special guests “Russell” from the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway, and “Prince” from the Ffestiniog Railway. Both of which were in steam throughout the weekend. Unfortunately, Russell and Prince couldn't pull any trains, as Prince and Russell had different gauges to the Talyllyn. However there were special sidings for the two locomotives to run up and down.
I visited on Saturday, which was the busiest day of the 3 day event. I spent a while at Wharf Station, before going to Abergynolwyn Station. After this I decided to visit the Falls at Dolgoch. Finally a quick return look at Wharf Station. When I arrived at Wharf, I saw the massive crowd on the station! Which was quite unbelievable.
When I found space, I found No.1 Talyllyn, Russell and Prince all lined up together, of which hasn't been seen before in my lifetime!
Dolgoch then arrived with the train that would form a ‘wedding' train. This was put into the platform with still the trio, which meant that they was 4 locomotives in Wharf Station.
Also at Tywyn Wharf, they was a miniature railway. This was just a short ride down the side of the siding and back.
Garden Railway
Tywyn Wharf had a garden railway operating. This was to the left of the miniature railway, and was massive and well presented. This garden railway was very detailed, with trains being Radio Controlled.
When I left the Garden Railway, I Noticed that the next train was in the platform. This train had come into Wharf with Tom Rolt, which was taking on water and coal, next to Russell and Prince.
All the Talyllyn Locomotives sported a Talyllyn 150 Headboard throughout the event.
Abergynolwyn
I then left Wharf Station, and went up the line by car to Abergynolwyn Station for some lunch. I recommend the sausage rolls! Before leaving Abergynolwyn, I noticed lovely old car parked in the car park .
After lunch, I went to see the falls at Dolgoch, before going to the Halo Ice Cream shop for some Toffee Ice Cream.
After some ice cream, I returned back to Tywyn Wharf for a while, and to see the ‘Mail Special' depart Tywyn Wharf.
Back at Tywyn Wharf
Duncan was also at Tywyn Wharf waiting for departure.
As Duncan was in the platform, the ‘Mail Special' was boarded from the siding.
At this point, there was 6 Locomotives in this relatively small station. Russell, Prince, No.1 Talyllyn, Duncan with Tom Rolt and No.3 Sir Haydn behind the Mail Special.
