Volunteers at Shillingstone station, on the old Somerset and Dorset line, were at work finishing the ballasting of the new track extension over Lamb House Bridge today. North Dorset Railway’s Hudswell shunter making a trip to the end of the line with a dogfish hopper. #feature

Swanage Railway kicked off the New Year with their Winter Warm Up on the first weekend of January. While not as cold and wintery as some parts of the UK, the sunny weather and frosty fields set the scene for plenty of steam! Trains were well loaded with enthusiasts and families.

Mayflower and Duke of Gloucester at Bath Spa
With a delayed departure of around 50 minutes, the chance for some night photography as 61306 Mayflower and 71000 Duke of Gloucester enter platform 2 at Bath Spa at quite a speed!

Overhaul just completed, GWR 2-8-0T no.4247 pulls a train into Cranmore station during East Somerset Railway’s Spring Steam Gala on Saturday 31st May, 2025. Unlined black livery with early BRITISH RAILWAYS lettering made it standout when double-heading with the two other green GWR tank engines that were running.

On a bitterly cold grey January day (it’s Dorset – anything below 4 degrees C is cold for us on the south coast) the T3 works hard up the bank into Harmans Cross with the freight train during Swanage Railway’s Winter Warm Up event. #feature
