I have just heard that Northern Rail is now being allowed to tender for 450 new trains that will replace nearly there current fleet.
But hang on Northern Rail is now being operated by the government as the operator of last choice so that means that the UK government is now investing in the railways.
TaylPSteam and David Spencer-
Maybe it’s time to photograph the Northern 15X series of units whilst there are still plenty around.

@DavidFS LOL Northern has only just got permission to put out a tender which will have to be drawn up to suit there requirements. This will be sent out to interested parties who will have to determine what they can manufacture. Once all parties have submitted their proposals then Northern will have to go through them, possibly visiting all the manufacturers before a decision will be announced. All this means you are looking at around five years maybe more, so don’t be in a rush to catch the current Northern units.

@Mike_Ashworth As a retired civil servant I know how slowly the wheels turn, but time passes and it’s good to get cracking whilst we can.

@DavidFS it all depends on who you are or who you know, as after meeting a deputy PM, a serving PM and a previous PM, my delayed heart bypass operation was fast tracked and took place in hours and not weeks.

@Mike_Ashworth I’m well aware of using senior politicians, senior personnel, etc. It’s amazing what happened when I asked the Brigadier a searching question, and told the Director that I’d move 220 miles for my work.
