(The Monolithic age Sparrow)
My Sparrow has produced three batches of young! And sits ahigh calling for any hen to produce a possible forth lot? Batches vary from four to eighteen? The later included one fat overweight chic that made many attempts to squeeze out of the nest box! Plus the number of beers I might of had while counting? But if your particular steam engine ever left BR Bristol area? Then the long time sat cold in a siding awaiting going to scrap? Was most probably in St Phillips, Barrow road or Severn Tunnel junction sidings? Monolithic steel hulks to replace stone or brick buildings! So many quiet nesting spots? From engines all over the western region! A crust of bread tossed onto the walking plate (this day) of Owsden, Witherslack, Downham Hall’s etc might produce a 60 year old Sparrow? We work return trains to Temple meads Bristol! Don’t spose many on here have hit that 4 or 5 mile tunnel at full bore? Oh brother, Its like a continuous earthquake? (Authors allowed a little overegging)? Now where’s that damn oversexed Sparrow! Doe’s memory simply revise old disappointment to make us forever older? Or do I listen to ‘too’ much Sinatra on You tube?
