‘Spot’ (The Heron’s) long family tree goes back to the division of the species for this young birds recognition of steam passing by? A short hop from the river! To the canal that was dug long before the Rail line! Gresley would guide a young Oliver Bulleid in his design stages! who then married Henry Ivatt’s daughter? The heron was designed by nature! But the 34028 Bulleid engine that was on my old Exmth jct shed, Was a straightforward full Bulleid engine of many years hauling the Atlantic coast expresses! That would magically reappear with Walschaert gear to require my constant oiling! An evolutionary change that would take the Heron a million years to achieve! I like picture (3) with a young looking fireman gazing from the footplate! (Discoloured exhaust suggests there were two fireman on the footplate? The engine was a transformation to its Converted form! It looks and sounded good! As were the train’s coaches? As it nears the estuary and the South Devon coastal Sea! I would pound this stretch with Western Prince n co in 1965! (the new diesel hydraulic)
