34028 goes through Newton Abbot 2 minutes early! Fireman will be happy! ! (Only once! And pulling the Royal mail train was I caught out by a bad steam engine)! For Par it has ventured ever West! And I daydream of my allocated engine of the mid 1960s from Bristol Templemeads on the Western 1000 sort like Duke, Hussar or Prince (I had over a dozen of them)! howling like a swarm of Spitfire planes that drone (sound) very similarly (I always thought)? Diesel allocation started once a week? (Western, Warship, Sulzer, or Hymek), 2 days then 3 to the end of 1965! All cabs were two man! Gazing out that front Goldfish bowl! For distant signals different to this day? And as A C Express engine Eddystone (one of the fleet on my old shed Exmth jct) (72A) roars ever West! Then I would also do the inland run over the moors on 31874 and my 1st Southern diesel being a 37! (22 class)! Of which ‘none’ were saved? There must be other fireman on here that worked the 22 diesel class?? I and hundreds of others were made redundant in mid 1967! Drivers went Single man!! So then I go Water filtration for the peoples drinking water, and helicopter frogmen rescue at Culdrose Naval Air station and a very young Prince Charles! So I would go from my wonderment of the exploits of James Trevithic in Helston and his 1st steam engine, and a very distant future young Neill Armstrong walking on the moon, to a large very deep pool for frogmen! My 1st house cost £1700 quid! Yet i very nearly bought an Aston Martin DB5 for 840 quid! but that was later in 1973 I should add! The terraced house was the best buy! I don’t see that option this day however? Today’s mad prices are the root of all a Paupers lack of spending power! (A house is the only thing you ever borrow for)! Its a Mad mad World!
