E-Bike for steam!
Got the ‘E bike’ out to see 34028 that was on my old 72A shed 68 years ago! A regular Atlantic Coast Express engine! This was on Southern! Waterloo Salisbury and to run parallel to 72A Shed and pit lines on the straight approaches to Blackboy tunnel while driver braking down from 80 MPH for St James park into Exeter Central! The lighter 34 Bulleids could go through! But likes of Clan line would come off! Driver stops the lighter 34s spot on for water! I put in water column hose and chuck coal forward in so little time! Cant get back in cab on wet angled tender flairs when raining, So I jump down a tidy height for my feet too smack onto the platform! Well I am not going down the back tender ladder between the now moving train? Driver’s nuts, And I’m quite mad but not stupid! So many yarns of exploits back then! 66 years ago? And still as daft! But now my legs are electricity assisted!

What ran out of breath first the bike or Clive

@Mike_Ashworth, Mine, I’m afraid Mike! The E Bike peddle assist has used one segment of Five! Whereas my battery expired 5 year ago! Without the motivation of the Lungs, The Heart simply suggests one should sit and watch Television all day! Motivation is the reward of careful and ever needed insperation!

@nostalgia so I should withdraw you from the milk race and the Tour de France then

Nice photos Clive and good unhindered location, did she look as good as you remembered?

@tommostours, Looks even better these days? Parts cleaned that we cleaners would bypass in late fifties! My little gang with wooden push along would do all paintwork with oil n paraffin mix! Buzz over the rods, I often look for boiler reach i can see from a bridge? But looks good to me! Even clean frame walkways that we would never bother with! I would go from oiling inner motion of all Converted sorts like 34028 to the heavier 35028 (M Navy) Clan Line or dozens of similar Bulleids on Exmth Jct shed, (72A) And as a progressive Passed cleaner on firing turns to them I would have 15/- (shillings, or 3/4 of a pound) added to my weekly wage of £3-9s-11 pence! Vacancy by seniority would cut my teeth on pushing heavy trains up St David’s bank for 18 month’s! A good starter for keeping steam quiet, To then waking them up quickly?
