37401
71000 Duke of Gloucester.
After a long period of work, I was relaxing yesterday when this wonderful site informed me 71000 was passing close by me. I grabbed a camera and made it to Winwick with only a few minutes to spare. This being a movement, the engine had picked up nearly 30 minutes on its times. The engine looked magnificent, and showed no signs of the issues that had plagued it earlier. I am not a diesel fan, but, it the sight of 37401 supporting added to the nice Saturday surprise.
One slight black spot, and I mention this because I do find it annoying. I was positioned at this very popular location for all trainspotters. There were a number there, and for once I did not engage in any conversation, letting them swap stories. A few short minutes before 71000 was due, one of them stood in front of my line of sought only a couple of feet in front of me. Technically he was trespassing but not posing a danger to where he was. I looked at the others and felt this was either him being ignorant, or it was a message for me to leave. I looked at his ‘friends’, who just carried on talking, as if it was okay. I was forced to move to a different part of the bank.
Generally I find fellow enthusiasts very friendly, and engaging, however, and had I not been clearly stood then his actions would have been considered a mistake. People regularly ignore the fence here, and that is fine, as long as they do not damage the crops growing in the field below. I am bored with this location, and will be looking to move else where, and hope to find somewhere where there is common courtesy.
