Kidderminster SVR Station 40th Anniversary. 28th July 2024. The station was celebrating its anniversary by putting on a recreation of the Kidderminster Venturer train. Got to take a tour of the signal box and have a short footplate ride on LMS 13268. My friend happened to be driver on my turn too so got to learn a lot about the engine. Another friend was fireman on my favourite engine “Hagley Hall” 4930 so went up on the footplate a couple of times too.
David Spencer, Tudor George and 3 others-
Nice photos Laura well done

@TaylPSteam thank you.

Why not give it a go? I was a fireman 65 year ago. Only two rules, Watch boiler water level and don’t let go of the shovel.

@nostalgia if I had the time I would. Hoping to volunteer on the railway at some point.

Ye, why not give it a try? Late fifties i would clean them with oil and parafin mix and cotton waste on the southern, Best place to start! Just check steam pressure gauge if going near their blow off valves! I don’t think cleaning crews get enough attention? We had them Halls you were on at Bristol Barrow road midland shed in early 60s. We brought many over from the old Philips marsh. I would take them all through the Severn tunnel to scrap throughout 65, A few would survive / come back? I see my old 6990 did?
