(-20 up North) They say? So turn my heat up to 17* and dream of my shunting days on my 41 or 82 standard 2 or 3Mt sorts! My Drivers off somewhere with the Signalman again! Summers could be so hot on the footplate, Yet folk build up a coal reserve for their winter ‘open’ fires, So coal wagons fly about the yard! The wagons i bring up from the docks! Coastal ships of only a 1000 ton, Timber, Or coal for the gasometer? cooked for gas i spose? No North sea stuff on line in late fifties or 1960! Now an hour or so to kill so i strip to pants and work boots and jump in the nearby river! (So cold)! And Shunter Vaslev i name after the Russian dancer Nijinsky who died on a 1950 visit to London was off this day, He could leap high over his long pine pole at a fast sprint to loose wagons off when shunting! Instead i have the Moaner! I’m swimming a good distance from his platform when he finds me to say i let his chickens out? I was worried he say my steam engine been pinched! I climb out of the water to see the road gates been opened and a train on the platform! Three chickens led by Flo follow some poor old lady onto the carriage! All i saw was a few chickens hop on, How he could say one was the good bird Flo at that distance i will never know! And when one of their holiday carriages burnt out they couldn’t find the culprit for that either? So the things left on trains? And the person who left their false leg behind would of kept falling over on the walk to the ticket barrier on the platform surely? Unless maybe hop? I only wrote this as not much else on today!
David Spencer, TaylPSteam and Michael Holden-
Bigger trains i would use the Maunsell sorts.
