• A 'Fuller' Explanation

I wouldn’t usually talk on this, but the amount of comments I got on my last post warranted a ‘fuller’ explanation.

As I stated, I no longer feel the ‘buzz’ of posting my pictures on here. I’m aware that’s so many people do like my photos; but if I’m not gaining anything from posting, then I ask what is the point doing so?

Honestly, I just can’t see any way around this at the moment. Priorities and circumstances change, and I have to change with it. So trying to keep it brief, I’m looking at keeping all my ‘decent’ rail photography for where I may get some kind of bigger credit or such like Railway magazines.

Either way, thankyou to all. You’ll see me maybe one day down the platform, tripod in-hand.

      • I understand Calum

        • I have similar feelings, but from a different perspective. I’ve not been to the ELR or the NYMR this year, both of which are only an hour or so from home and I’ve not missed them. The same locos in the same spots can cause a loss of interest. I make a point of visiting the Middleton Rly. every weekend during the operating season, but am a member there, so have a direct link with it, plus friends there. My wife’s lack of mobility also plays a part in all this, too, but is not a major factor. Maybe in 2026 after the winter break?

          • @DavidFS I am regularly at the Rawtenstall end of the ELR on a Sunday morning whilst the wife goes shopping, yes I do video from several places, recording the passing trains , yes you do see a range of different’ELR’ trains, but I am happy with. I do post all my videos onto YouTube as I get paid as my channel has been monetised for over a year, so yes I am enjoying a hobby that pays me, but I only film no more than 15-20 miles away as I don’t believe in going out of my way.

          • Paper media or electronic media, is there really that much difference as both disciplines show people your work. Do you get paid in railway magazines like YouTube does? Is that what drives you?

@Mike_Ashworth Railway Mag used one of my photos on Flickr.com earlier this year and credited me with the photo. However, I was neither approached beforehand or thanked afterwards in any way for its use. I don’t mind, as it was of the Middleton Railway taken at a spot which can no longer be used due to trees having sprung up blocking the view.
