I’m probably asking some daft questions but here goes:

    1. I’ve joined RAIL ADVENT primarily to find out when heritage diesel (or steam) locomotives are passing my general area. Which I think is straightforward by searching railtours etc – is this the best way to? Or does someone else have a decent website to achieve this ?

    2. Where is the best place to find movements of diesel locomotives on the mainline – ie those employed in non-heritage work

    3. Where is the best place to find movements of heritage loco’s not employed in actual tours – ie. moving them ready for tours

    Hope all that makes sense.

    Thanks in advance !

    PS.. based in Salisbury Wiltshire.

    Hi Ian,

Thank you for becoming a member of RailAdvent Plus.

    To help with your questions…

    1) As a member, you can search for any station on the network via this page: http://www.railadvent.co.uk/stations – you can also bookmark a link if you have a favourite station, for example, Salisbury is https://www.railadvent.co.uk/station-news-and-tours?station=Salisbury . The results of these pages include both tours and LE/ECS movements

2 and 3) The station search links, as well as the railtour page (www.railadvent.co.uk/railtours) includes ECS movements for steam and diesel locos which are either heading to a tour, heritage railway for a gala, or out on test runs

If you have any other questions, just let me know
