Yes Mark, you are right up to a point, but this has been going on for so long it is time RTC found themselves a more reliable operator or put a proviso on the advertising drawing attention to the high possibilty of diesel substitution or cancelletion
Yet another example of West Coast / Railway Touring Company’s failure to provide the advertised motive power. This, coupled with the large number of cancellations which is presumably for the same reason, must mean confidence in these organisations to meet their advertised commitments must be rock bottom.
And they presumably will still charge participants the price of a steam-hauled tour. One could possibly understand this if the advertised steam locomotive had become unavailable at short notice, but this is on a tour in 18 days time. Participants should be charged only the price that would have been applicable if the tour was going to be diesel in the first place.
I was booked on the Somerset steam Express on 13th September..it was ment to be hauled by 45212 and a WSR loco but ended up been diesal hauled all the way.
Cant blame RTC they are iist the tour organisers. Its west coast railways who cannot provide the motive power. Only engine they have available is Tangmere.. 44871 is in London for Polar Express,45407 is at Wensleydale Railway,45212 is been overhauled only.otjer engine are doing tours in London all other engines are not compatible with the carriages
