The Lakelander actually ran with BluePeter instead of Mayflower. Disappointingly the train had 2 diesels – one directly behind BluePeter, the other at the rear. When I watched it come through Workington the diesels were doing most of the work. Apparently this was to “mitigate the fire risk” which, in West Cumbria, was considerably over-cautious. We’ve had a large amount of rain over the last couple of weeks and everything is soggy, but I guess London based officials just assumed that the “heatwave” in the South applied to the whole country
Better for the photographers south of Preston!
