Earlier this year, the Great Central Railway (Nottingham) launched an appeal to help repair the Stanford Viaduct.

Following the success of the appeal, work has now been able to commence on the historic structure that carries the railway over the River Soar.

Funding came from the East Midlands Transport Heritage Trust’s Forward Fund Appeal.

The repairs were necessary as vandals had covered the structure in graffiti and pushed coping stones and brickwork off the bridge.

During the work, the parapet walls will be rebuilt, spray paint removed, and invasive plants will be removed.
