On the 25th-27th September, the West Somerset Railway is hosting its Autumn Steam Weekend.

Great Western Railway “Large Prairie” 4110 and Ivatt 2-6-2 Tank No. 41313 have already been announced as attendees to the event.

The last surviving ”Coal Tank” built by the London and North Western Railway in the 19th century, number 1054, is set to appear at the gala.

Originally having 300 members to its class, 1054 survived a lot, being sent for scrap in 1939, but was reinstated due to demand.

It later arrived in Abergavenny in 1954 and ran on the last passenger train between Abergavenny and Merthyr in 1958.

It was once again sent for scrap, but thanks to a public appeal, it was saved.

1054 is now under the care of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway and the Bahamas Locomotive Society.

1054 visited the railway for a gala back in 2024, and this year will mark its second visit to the line.
