Transport for Greater Manchester is launching a new scheme with Aviva that will benefit 90,000 schoolchildren.
The scheme will allow children to travel for free on Bee Network trams to encourage more educational trips.
TfGM and Aviva hope that more children will be able to visit museums, galleries and green spaces without being limited by travel costs.
School visits to these venues remain below pre-COVID levels, with cost often being the reason for not visiting.
The scheme will run for 12 months from yesterday (14th September), and schools can apply for free travel online.
Full details on limitations and how to access free tickets are available online.
“Too often, the cost of travel can prevent schools from taking part in the trips and activities that broaden horizons, spark ambition and bring learning to life. By removing that barrier, this partnership will open the door for thousands more young people to explore everything Greater Manchester has to offer.
“From world-class cultural venues such as Aviva Studios, The Lowry and Oldham Coliseum Theatre, to some of our region’s most-loved green spaces including Heaton Park, Sale Water Park and Wythenshawe Park, this initiative will help ensure that more young people can benefit from the experiences that enrich education, build confidence and create lasting memories.”
Bev Craig, Mayor of Greater Manchester
