It has been announced that LMS Black 5 No. 45212 is to return to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

The locomotive has been at Bury after its boiler ticket expired.

45212 had been on the mainline hauling tours and The Jacobite thanks to a 10-year-partnership with Riley & Son (E) Ltd.

It was intended that the hire agreement would be renewed, keeping 45212 as an active locomotive on the mainline.

However, increased costs have not been matched by an increase in revenue, meaning keeping 45212 on the mainline as part of the partnership is now not sustainable.

The locomotive will be returning to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway in due course, where a decision on the locomotive’s future will be made.

Riley & Son (E) Ltd and The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway are to continue working together on several projects.

Chair of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, Matt Stroh, and Ian Riley, both agreed that the parnership had been ‘positive’ and it had been a ‘marvellous opportunity’ to operate 45212 on the mainline.
