£1250 has been raised for the Robertsbridge Buildings Appeal through a 33-mile walk and craft fair.
George Adams, a regular volunteer at Robertsbridge Junction Station, took on the feat across the South Downs.
The funds are set to go towards the engine shed construction at the station, which is the second phase of the huge project.
George, aged 26, with the help of his carer, explored numerous places on foot, starting in Eastbourne.
The £350,000 fundraiser launched by the Rother Valley Railway Heritage Trust is now just £100,000 away from the goal.
The railway has thanked George and anyone who has contributed to their goal.
Members of the public are being encouraged to donate, providing funds to reconnect the Kent and East Sussex Railway (which runs from Bodiam to Tenterden) with the Rother Valley Railway at Robertsbridge; donations can be made online.
“George’s dedication has been inspiring to all of us. Walking 33 miles across the South Downs to raise money for our important Buildings Appeal is an extra-ordinary effort, and he has every reason to be proud. George brings energy, kindness and commitment to his volunteering at Robertsbridge and we are very lucky to have him as part of the team.”
Helen Douglas, Appeals Director for the Rother Valley Railway Heritage Trust
