Dapol has announced it is upgrading its range of OO Gauge LMS Stanier Corridor coaches.

Two body styles will be available: a Brake Third and a Composite, with each available in one of three classic liveries: LMS Lined Maroon, BR Carmine and Cream, and BR Lined Maroon.

The original coaches were designed in the 1930s by William Stanier.

They were known as Period III coaches, and could be seen over most of Britain’s railway network until the 1960s, when they were superseded by the BR MK.1 coaches.

Several similar coaches are preserved on the Severn Valley Railway.

The model coaches date back to an Airfix range in the 1980s. They have now been upgraded with improved underframe detailing; the original plastic wheels have been replaced with metal wheelsets, and the windows have been improved by removing the moulded window surrounds from the body and printing the frame detail directly onto the glazing, which provides a finer, more refined appearance.

Other changes include the addition of a dynamo, upgraded vacuum cylinders, extra framing and brake shafts added, improved bogie pivot fixings, new adaptor clips for NEM pockets, polished glazing, and printed window bars instead of thick plastic.

The price of the upgraded corridor coaches will be £35.00, and they are expected to be available in shops towards the end of September or the beginning of October.

Earlier this month, Dapol cancelled its planned release of OO Gauge GWR Churchward toplight coaches. In March, it announced the release of N Gauge models of London Midland & Scottish Railway Period III 57ft non-lavatory suburban coaches.
