As announced last week, ScotRail will be helping people travel to and from events at Edinburgh’s festivals by running extra trains on some routes to and from Edinburgh Waverley station from Friday, 7 August until Sunday, 30 August. It will also operate longer trains with additional seats on board.

ScotRail will operate these enhanced services throughout the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Edinburgh International Festival.

Additions to the operator’s usual timetables include extra late-night trains between Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street each night throughout the period that the festivals are running, as well as between Waverley station and Tweedbank, Dundee and Leven.

Longer trains will run between Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Queen Street, the Borders, Fife, Perth, Dundee, Leven, Stirling, Dunblane, Bathgate and North Berwick.

A special late-night service will run from North Berwick to Edinburgh Waverley each evening while the ‘Fringe by the Sea’ events run, until Sunday, 9 August.

Scotrail, which has also run enhanced services for the festivals in previous years, is reminding passengers who are planning to attend evening performances to check the time of their last train in advance.

The operator is also pointing out that it expects stations to be busier than usual after performances, and may introduce queuing systems at Edinburgh Waverley and other stations.

As part of Princes Street is still closed following a recent fire, ScotRail is asking passengers who would normally travel through Edinburgh Waverley before continuing by foot or tram to venues outside the city centre to allow themselves extra time and to consider travelling through Haymarket station instead.

“We’re providing extra late-night services and longer trains on key routes, giving customers more opportunities to travel home after evening performances and adding thousands of seats throughout the festival period.

“Trains and stations will be busier than normal, particularly later in the evening, so customers should allow some extra time for their journey, make sure they have their ticket before boarding, and check the time of their last train.”
