The Friends of Nuneaton Station adopter group has given the station a summer makeover with a new collection of floral displays.

Passengers who use the Warwickshire station will come across new flower arrangements on the station’s platforms. New planters include a miniature cast stone steam engine, a novelty pirate’s chest and hanging baskets inside the overbridge.

Serving the market town of Nuneaton, the station is used by three different railway lines. The Trent Valley section of the West Coast Main Line (WCML), the line from Birmingham to Leicester and Peterborough, and the Coventry to Nuneaton branch line, all stop at the station.

It has seven platforms: one side platform (platform 1) on the west side and three island platforms. All the station’s platforms are linked by a footbridge with a lift, ensuring that there is step-free access to all platforms. The main station building at Nuneaton is next to platform 1. It contains the station’s main facilities, which include a staffed ticket office and a café shop.

Around 3,700 passengers start or end their journey at Nuneaton station each day. When people changing between lines at the station are included, the figures rises to more than 5,350 daily users.

The Friends of Nuneaton Station volunteer group designed and planted all the new displays.

‘Station adopters’ are volunteers who help to keep their local station well-maintained. They undertake projects such as gardening, painting and installing artwork or information boards. London Northwestern Rail (LNR) and its ‘sister brand’ West Midlands Railway (WMR) have more than 440 volunteers across their network of 155 stations.

Other train operating companies also benefit from the help of station adopters, including Northern and Greater Anglia.

The new displays in Nuneaton are absolutely wonderful. Even when faced with the hot weather, our station adopters have done a fantastic job of re-planting and maintaining the flowerbeds, and there’s more to come, with even more planters ready to be installed soon.
