Greater Anglia has released an update after the train derailment near Wickford in Essex last week.

The operator says that passengers should expect disruption for at least another week, with extensive damage to one and a half miles of infrastructure.

The railway will be closed between Billericay and Hockley to allow for repairs to be made.

A shuttle service is in operation between Shenfield and Billericay and between Hockley and Southend, with a rail replacement bus service in operation.

A rail replacement bus service is also operating between Wickford and Southminster.

Greater Anglia says that the trains and buses are limited in capacity, with passengers urged to check before travelling.

Ticket acceptance is in place with c2c between Southend Central and London Fenchurch Street.

Our response teams are working around the clock and doing everything they can to safely restore the line and resume normal train services as soon as possible.

“In the meantime, we know this disruption will impact our customers’ journeys on the lines to Southend Victoria and Southminster and we are grateful for our customers’ patience as we carry out this emergency work. We are very sorry for the inconvenience we know this disruption to services will cause. As repair work progresses, further updates on any changes to services and the impact on journeys will be provided when they are available.”
