Network Rail and train operator CrossCountry are reminding passengers planning to travel by rail over the upcoming August bank holiday weekend to check before they travel, because major HS2 building work in Birmingham will disrupt services.
Engineering work to install part of the new Saltley Viaduct will take place from Saturday 29 August to Monday 31 August, and will impact train services between Birmingham New Street, Derby and Nuneaton.
Some journeys will take longer than usual. Rail replacement buses will run between Birmingham New Street, Water Orton and Coleshill Parkway.
The bank holiday weekend work is being carried out as part of HS2’s programme to rebuild Saltley Viaduct.
The reconstruction of the viaduct, which began in May this year, will create the space that is needed for the future high-speed railway, and will also improve facilities for pedestrians and for cyclists.
The work will disrupt train services between Birmingham New Street and Leicester, Peterborough, Cambridge and Stansted Airport.
It will also impact on train services between Cardiff Central and Nottingham via Birmingham New Street.
Passengers wishing to travel between Birmingham New Street and destinations in the North East of England, Scotland and the South West of England will also find that their usual services are subject to change.
Network Rail is advising passengers to allow more time for their journeys, and to check the latest travel information before setting off.
We’re sorry for this disruption to journeys over the August bank holiday weekend while this essential HS2 work takes place.
From Saturday 29 until Monday 31 August, journeys between Birmingham New Street and destinations including Leicester, Nottingham, Peterborough, Cambridge, Stansted Airport, the North East and Scotland will take longer, with rail replacement buses operating between Birmingham New Street, Water Orton and Coleshill Parkway.

Would this be the same Director that has remained completely silent on the failure of CrossCountry, his employer, to provide any sort of (adequate) service on Sunday 23rd August across basically the whole of the rail network that CrossCountry are suppose to provide service.
