Model railway company Bachmann Europe has introduced a new ‘Just Plug Sound System’ as part of its Woodland Scenics range.

It promises that the system will “bring any project to life with an explosion of sound” and that it provides a “realistic, immersive sound experience” to dioramas, model railways, seasonal displays, school projects, tabletop games and museum displays.

Bachmann, which last week revealed its tooling projects for the autumn, believes that modellers will find the Just Plug Sound System easy to install. As the name suggests, all that you need to do is plug it in.

The heart of the system is its Sound Hub.

Once the Power Supply is connected to the Sound Hub, the player then inserts a Sound Card.

Several Sound Hubs can run from one Power Supply via connection to each other.

The Sound Hub has push buttons and volume controls for each sound, with each Sound Hub controlling up to four individual sounds. Once the speakers are plugged in, the sound can play.

There is a range of sounds available.

Background sounds include birds and running water, while players can also create active sounds such as church bells and sirens. Players can customise their layout or project in numerous ways.

Modellers can upload their own custom sounds from an iPhone, Android or computer onto Blank Sound Cards using the system’s Card Reader, and can create sounds using the Just Plug Sound Studio.

Players can choose between three different Speakers. Micro and Mini Speakers can be disguised in a layout or project using the Grill Cloth Kit, or the Stereo Room Speakers can be used for sound effects such as an aeroplane flying overhead.

The Room Speaker Mixer enables this feature to be used with all four Hub channels through one set of speakers.

There is also the option of using the Stereo Splitter to connect Micro or Mini Speakers in a surround-sound style arrangement.

The Just Plug Sound System includes five triggers – Magnetic Track, Motion, Automatic, Push Button and Remote Control Trigger Kit.

This enables modellers to determine what action will trigger a sound. After plugging in the Motion Trigger, a sound will play when it detects motion.

The Push Button Trigger is useful for manually starting sounds from a distance. The Magnetic Track Trigger activates sound with a passing magnet, and so is suitable for use with crossings.

Using the system alongside sound-fitted Bachmann locomotives should create a symphony of realistic sounds!
