Gatwick Express is introducing a new summer timetable from tomorrow, Saturday, 18th July, which includes extra early Saturday and Sunday morning trains to and from Gatwick Airport.

The new services will help those customers with early and late flights to and from the airport, and are especially aimed at the increasing trend for travellers to travel to the airport in their sleepwear. The early morning trains depart from London Victoria at 3.40 am on Saturdays, and from Gatwick Airport at 4.35 am on Sundays, and follow other recent benefits introduced by Gatwick Express, including Fast Track security and premium airport lounge access.

Gatwick Express recently commissioned a survey, which showed that 33% of travellers aged 18-29 say they have travelled to the airport in pyjamas, and over 53% in the same age group think it’s acceptable to do so for an early-morning flight.

Of the advantages claimed by those travelling in pyjamas, 44% say they can stay in bed longer, 40% feel more relaxed before their holiday, 38% save time getting ready, 37% think they have a more comfortable journey, and 33% say they have one less thing to think about before they leave home.

Gatwick Express, along with the other along with other subsidiaries of Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), including Thameslink, Southern, and Great Northern, were transferred into public ownership on 31st May.

Great Western Railway is currently running a 12-week trial of early morning services between Reading and Gatwick Airport.
