The Llangollen and Corwen Railway has declared that its Classic Transport Weekend, held last Saturday, 4th, and Sunday, 5th July, was an unforgettable experience.

The weekend celebrated Britain’s transport heritage, with exhibitors, volunteers, and visitors travelling from throughout the UK to view the near-400 classic vehicles on display.

Adding to their enjoyment was an intensive heritage train service operated by Great Western Railway ( GWR) Pannier Tank No. 7754, a Class 47 diesel locomotive, and a restored four-car heritage diesel multiple unit (DMU).

Vintage buses also provided a shuttle service, whilst one of the weekend’s stars, which remained stationary, was a driving simulator for a Class 507 electric multiple unit (EMU).

Many of the exhibits were on display at Glyndyfrdwy Station, including classic cars, vintage buses, motorcycles, tractors, commercial vehicles, military vehicles and fire engines, and on Saturday evening, the internationally acclaimed Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir gave a memorable performance at a Party in the Park.

On Sunday, world-renowned composer Sir Karl Jenkins, composer of Adiemus, The Armed Man and the Delta Air Lines television theme, formally closed the event before boarding a train and travelling on the day’s final steam service.

The railway’s next major event is on Saturday, 1st, and Sunday, 2nd August, when it holds its popular Sixties Weekend, a nostalgic celebration of the swinging sixties, including live music, vintage vehicles, and period dress. The weekend of family entertainment has the added attraction of heritage trains.
