New figures show that the number of people travelling by train continues to increase, with ScotRail recording more than seven million passenger journeys in June.

The number of journeys was boosted by major events such as TRNSMT, Take That at Barclays Hampden, Zach Bryan at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, and the Summer Sessions in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow, in addition to thousands of leisure journeys made to towns, cities, and visitor attractions throughout Scotland.

These figures follow the success of last summer, and show that the number of people travelling by train continues to increase, both to special events and for leisure. During the coming weeks, millions of people are expected to use the train for travel to the Commonwealth Games, which starts later this month, the Edinburgh Festivals, and concerts at Murrayfield and Hampden that are already sold out.

Over a four-week period in June, 7,069,000 passengers made journeys on ScotRail trains, which was 6 per cent, or 378,000, more journeys than during the same period last year.

The latest figures show a continuing record number of passengers travelling with ScotRail, such as 802,267 passenger journeys over this year’s Easter weekend, and 337,441 journeys made on a single day last November, which eclipsed the previous record of 326,000.
