Early last year, work began to build the Okehampton Interchange station in Devon.
The station progressed well and remained on track to have its official opening today (31st July).
The official opening event was attended by representatives from Network Rail, Great Western Railway (GWR), Devon County Council and West Devon Borough Council.
The station opens to passenger services on the Dartmoor Line tomorrow (1st August).
“The opening of Okehampton Interchange marks a major step forward for transport in the South West. Backed by £13.5 million of Government investment, this fully accessible new station will make it easier for people to get to work, education and leisure, while supporting jobs, homes and economic growth across west Devon.
“It’s a great example of the joined-up, locally focused railway we want to see under Great British Railways, bringing together rail, bus, cycling and park-and-ride connections so passengers get better journeys and communities can thrive.”

Very nice to see Okehampton Interchange now opened. Was it going to be called Okehampton Parkway before it was changed to Okehampton Interchange. I do think that GWR and Network Rail should bring back the Portishead Line and Henbury Line and new railway stations to reopen at Pill, Portway, Portishead and at Henbury. Plus with Bristol Brabazon railway station due to open sometime later this year that is on the Henbury branch line.
