Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund has provided a £47,778 grant to provide new digital information screens at four railway stations in North Norfolk.

Sheringham, Cromer, Hoveton & Wroxham, and North Walsham now have touchscreens that provide information about local travel services, tourism, and visitor information. A funding application was submitted to Greater Anglia by North Norfolk District Council and was approved in July last year.

The screens have already been installed and are expected to be in operation within the next two weeks. After testing and commissioning have been completed, they will be managed by Visit North Norfolk. As well as providing information about local attractions, businesses, events, and tourist information. They can display maps of the local area, and through a partnership with Norfolk County Council, they also display the times of onward bus departures for better connections between local bus and rail services.

By funding these screens, Greater Anglia is supporting a wider programme of visitor information improvements across North Norfolk. Another £140,000 project is also funding other screens that are being commissioned by the Broads Authority, Community Rail Norfolk, several destinations and market towns.

The screens represent just one initiative out of 28 that Greater Anglia has funded during the last year, which are of benefit to both the community and the railway. These range from station enhancements and integrated transport projects to education, biodiversity, arts, heritage and community rail initiatives, a key requirement being that a project benefits both the community and the railway.

Andrew Hird, Managing Director of Visit North Norfolk, commented that the organisation is delighted to be working with its partners to deliver this exciting and innovative project to the towns of North Norfolk by providing visitors with up-to-date information about the area. They also support local businesses by providing a readily accessible source of information about events, things to do, and businesses to visit.

Between September 2025 and April 2026, Greater Anglia invested over £1.4m in repainting 29 stations across its network, and at many stations, the cycle hubs have had a security upgrade.

“The Customer and Community Improvement Fund is designed to support projects that make a real difference to the communities we serve. This initiative will help provide consistent information for visitors using public transport, while giving people more confidence to explore the fantastic destinations along the Bittern Line. By improving access to local visitor and onward travel information, we can help make rail journeys easier, better connected and more useful for local communities and visitors.”

Scott Dolling, Partnerships Manager, Greater Anglia
