Llangollen Railway in Wales has announced that it will run a ‘Pavarotti Special’ bus taking passengers to and from the ‘Party in the Park’ on the Saturday evening of its upcoming Classic Transport Weekend.

The event takes place this weekend, on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 July.

Ticket holders can take the Pavarotti Special to the Party in the Park at no extra cost. The concert will feature the Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir, which enjoys the accolade of being Luciano Pavarotti’s favourite Welsh Choir. The singers will perform in a marquee in the field next to the railway.

The vintage heritage bus will leave Corwen at 18:00 and travel to Glyndyfrdwy station, and will make the return journey at 22:02.

The Classic Transport Weekend will feature nearly four hundred classic vehicles, which will travel behind steam locomotives and heritage diesel trains. The railway expects this year’s event to be its biggest ever.

People wishing to attend the concert but not the rest of the weekend event can buy an evening-only ticket for £5.

Those who plan to attend the Classic Transport Weekend can take the Vintage Shuttle, which will operate between Corwen and Glyn every half hour between 10am and 5pm on both days of the event.

The Llangollen will keep up the musical theme next month, when it will play a part in the town’s Eistedfodd festival, which runs from Wednesday 8 until Sunday 12 July. The Eistedfodd has worked with Llangollen Railway since it started in 1947.

The Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir was founded for that first Eistedfodd 79 years ago. Last year, the choir performed on the railway for Nicoletta Mantovani, Luciano Pavarotti’s widow.

The Llangollen Railway is located in the valley beside the River Dee. It represents a revival of the Great Western Railway (GWR) line from Ruabon to Corwen, which was closed in the late 1960s but has since been reopened as a heritage line. It runs over ten miles of operational track, and passes through attractive landscapes.
