Network Rail has released a video showing the recovery work progressing following last week’s fatal train collision near Bedford.
A number of passengers were injured in the crash, and sadly, an East Midlands Railway driver died, which the British Transport Police said yesterday was 60-year-old Shaun Burton.
The recovery operation is underway to remove the damaged trains before engineers can assess what repairs will be needed.
Kirow cranes will be used to lift the trains off the railway, with further cranes being used to load them onto a low loader and away from the railway by road.
The footage shows cranes at work as well as a Class 66 arriving to come and assist with taking the trains away from the accident site.
