The British Transport Police are attending, along with other emergency services, to reports of a two train collision near Bedford.
All lines have been blocked since around 17:30, with passengers urged not to travel.
East Midlands Railway have confirmed that there has been a collision involving the 16:40 Corby to London St Pancras and the 15:50 Nottingham to London St Pancras with the collision taking place at Bedford South.
The RAIB says that a team of investigators is at the scene to gather evidence as part of their investigation.
The British Transport Police’s statement reads ‘We are responding to reports of a collision involving two trains in the Bedford area. We’ll share more information as soon as possible’.
All trains between London St Pancras and Leicester are affected with multiple pieces of travel advice available for passengers for Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester. Please see National Rail for the latest travel advice.

East Midlands Railway have released the following statement:
“The 16:40 EMR train from Corby to London St Pancras has been involved in a collision with 15:50 Nottingham at London St Pancras at Bedford South.
“We are currently on the scene and working with Network Rail to assist the emergency services.
“Further updates will be provided as soon as more information is established.”

Bedfordshire Police say that they are responding to an incident on the railway, and have urged people to avoid the area whilst the emergency services complete their work.
