Transport for Greater Manchester has confirmed tram services along the Oldham-Rochdale line have resumed following the successful completion of essential track replacement work.

Engineers renewed 1.2km of track between Monsall and Newton Heath & Moston. Other work included drainage improvements, foundation renewals, and corrections to the track’s alignment and level. The large-scale project required approximately 290 new concrete sleepers, 2,000 tonnes of gravel, and the replacement of more than 5,000 tonnes of ballast.

Carried out during a planned two-week closure between Victoria and Rochdale town centre, the project forms part of a wider £150 million programme to maintain and improve the Metrolink network.

Further upgrades are planned across the Bee Network in the coming months, with major schemes scheduled at Trafford Bar and Deansgate-Castlefield. As a result, no tram services will operate on the Eccles, Trafford Centre or Altrincham lines for three weeks, from Monday, 13 July until Sunday, 2 August.

It’s the first major milestone of a wider programme of improvements we’re delivering across our tram network this summer to keep it safe, resilient and fit for the future.
