Next month, 2 km of old track near Berney Arms station will be replaced.

The work will be taking place on weekdays between the 6th and 17th July.

Services between Norwich and Great Yarmouth will be diverted via Acle, with a shuttle bus in place between Lingwood, Cantley and Reedham.

The track is supported by wooden sleepers and is in much need of replacement as it dates back to the 1930s and 1940s.

The renewal will see 2,755 new steel sleepers installed and the jointed rails replaced by continuously welded rail.

Work on the surfaces at four user-worked level crossings will also be improved.

Passengers are advised to plan ahead and check before they travel.

“Our vital work will help to keep trains running reliably on this part of the line for decades to come. We’re really sorry to passengers whose plans will be disrupted by these changes to services, but this very old track has to be replaced and we need extended engineering access to be able to do it. There’s never a good time to close the railway, but we always aim to plan work so we can get the job done while causing the least overall disruption.”
