The Talyllyn Railway is scheduled to run its steam services with heavily planned fire and heat protection measures.

The railway has learned lessons from previous heatwaves, with each train carrying fire beaters and emergency water supplies.

Those on the footplate, guards and volunteers are being provided lots of water and isotonic tablets to help them stay hydrated.

All the measures in place are aiming to safeguard everyone at the railway and the surrounding areas.

Those visiting can enjoy a journey through the valley and hop off at Dolgoch for a bit of shade.

Additionally, ‘Toby’ is ready and waiting with fire extinguishers and water pumps.

“Hot weather presents additional challenges for every heritage railway, but we have robust procedures in place and a dedicated team who work incredibly hard to keep trains running safely.

“Some of the measures we use today have their roots in the lessons learned during the heatwave of 1976, and they have stood the test of time remarkably well.

“We know many people are looking for somewhere a little cooler during this spell of hot weather and a journey through the Fathew Valley, combined with a walk to the waterfalls at Dolgoch, offers a wonderful way to enjoy the scenery while escaping the worst of the heat,”
