A well-used riverside path that runs alongside the Severn Valley Railway between Country Park Halt near Highley and Hampton Loade station is set to be better protected.

Previous maintenance funding came to an end in December 2024, but now Highley Parish Council (HPC) has agreed to maintain the path.

The path is on the railway’s land; however, they do not have the resources to maintain it.

The path forms part of Route 45 on the National Cycle Network, and this maintenance agreement will prevent it from closure.

Lengthy discussions have been ongoing between the railway and HPC on how they can keep the route open.

Public access will remain open, with maintenance expected later this year and a Memorandum of Understanding being prepared, ready for signing.

Their willingness to take on responsibility for maintenance has enabled us to find a way of keeping the route open while satisfying the necessary insurance and safety requirements.
