This weekend, Network Rail has a £6 million programme of upgrades planned for the Far North Line.

During the work, over 4km of track will be renewed, drainage will be improved, the level crossing at Rogart will undergo some maintenance, and a bridge near Edderton will be repaired.

These upgrades will be underway at numerous locations between Evanton, Tain, and Lairg and on sections north of Tain towards Wick and Thurso.

The work means that no trains will run between Dingwall and Wick from the 7th June (late in the day) to the 29th June (early hours).

Rail replacement buses will be in place during the closure. Those planning to travel should check online before any journey.

“We know the Far North Line is a lifeline for some of Scotland’s most remote communities and that’s exactly why we need to keep investing in it. This £6m project will help ensure the railway remains safe, reliable and fit for the future.

“We know closing the line for three weeks is an inconvenience, and we don’t take that lightly. But doing this work in one block means fewer disruptions later and a better railway overall for years to come.
