Dovetail Games has announced that Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor will be available on Nintendo Switch from next Tuesday, 9th June.

The delay in releasing it on Nintendo Switch is because it is different from other platforms, and there were different aspects to be taken into consideration before it could be released.

Inspired by the original Thomas books, Thomas & Friends™: Wonders of Sodor brings the stories to life as an interactive experience from the first-person perspective.

Players can drive classic engines such as Thomas, Percy, Gordon, Emily, and Diesel to iconic landmarks across the Island of Sodor.

For players with the Deluxe Edition, there is also James, the Number 5 red engine. Among the sights of Sodor’s Thomas & Friends™ locations are Tidmouth Sheds, Knapford Station, and the famous Windmills.

To build an authentic version of Sodor, the game developers looked at locations throughout all eras of the Thomas brand, including Elsbridge Station, Tidmouth Station, and Vicarstown Station.

The game has eight stories, including Thomas & Gordon, Thomas & Bertie’s Great Race, and Percy’s Troublesome Day, each narrated by Mark Moraghan and backed by music specially composed for the games.

As well as the stories, there are three additional game modes: Timetable Mode, Explore Mode, and a Shunting Challenge.

  • In Timetable Mode, players select a character and drive a day in the life of that character on the Island of Sodor, or they can select a service at different times of the day.
  • In Explore Mode, players can explore the Island on foot, by train, or by driving a train.
  • In the Shunting Challenge, players must use as few moves as possible for Diesel to shunt Troublesome Trucks into a certain order.

The developers have also addressed a few issues and bugs discovered after the game was originally released.
