Model railway manufacturer Hornby has made its usual mid-year announcements of additions to its OO Gauge range of models, including a collection of Gresley Pacifics and a preserved Electric Multiple Unit (EMU).

New locomotives include a model of the iconic Planet locomotive, which was built by Robert Stephenson in 1830, and will be an ideal addition to Hornby’s model of Stephenson’s Rocket. Gresley Pacifics set to get mouths watering include representatives of Classes A2/3, A3, and A4, all fitted with a steam generator system, which will provide 20 minutes of uninterrupted steam accompanied by a realistic DCC sound.

The A4s will supplement No. 4498 Mallard and No. 60033 Seagull in being the first Hornby A4s that incorporate steam generator technology.

Other Pacifics have a Southern Region flavour, with 35028 Clan Line in unrebuilt condition, fitted with sound and steam generation, and painted in late BR lined green, and No. 35019 French Line CGT in BR express blue.

Great Western Railway (GWR) models include 2980 Coeur de Lion, pre-fitted with DCC sound and steam generation, and 2945 Hillingdon Court, which is DCC Ready and also has a revised cab footplate.

New tank engines include two London, Brighton & South Coast Railway (LB&SCR) Class A1 Terriers in LB&SCR Marsh Brown and Newhaven Harbour Company Black, and a Great Northern Railway (GNR) J13 class in GNR lined green livery.

A special Electric Multiple Unit is 4-VEP Class 423 No. 3417 Gordon Pettitt in BR Blue livery, which is preserved at the Bluebell Railway, but has travelled to several heritage railways.

New coaches include more Bulleid ‘Tavern Cars’, now in as-built condition, painted Crimson & Cream, and named At the Sign of the Dolphin. Suitable for operation with the Class A1 Terriers are a rake of 4/6-wheel coaches in LB&SCR Lined Brown livery.

Also in this month’s announcement are a Brake Second Corridor and Tourist Second Open Mark 1 coach in the revised Network South East livery’

The RailRoad range of models has new locos and rolling stock, including a Class 800 with two driving cars in Great British Railways livery, which, with the separately available motor standard coaches, can form a typical 5-car train.

Also in the Railroad range on offer is Class 73 No. 73235 locomotive with a BR InterCity Swallow livery. Steam locomotives in the RailRoad range include LNER A1 Class No. 60163 Tornado in BR Apple Green, GWR County Class No. 1023 County of Oxford in GWR Lined Green, and LMS Fowler 3F Jinty No. 16440 in LMS Lined Maroon.

In May, Hornby announced the release of an OO Gauge model of the prototype Deltic locomotive in the same livery as it is preserved in the National Railway Museum at York, whilst in April it announced a Pendolino with a livery celebrating Earth Day, which highlighted climate action, sustainability and environmental education.
