From tomorrow, the 26th June, Network Rail will be closing the Brookside level crossing in Dinas Powys.

They have made the decision due to a recent safety assessment, which showed a heightened risk to users.

Until the options for the crossing are fully considered, it will remain closed due to it being located on a busy section of railway.

A temporary speed restriction was put in place to help with safety, but this has a knock-on effect on the community and timetable.

Secure fencing will be installed at the crossing along with signage.

There are also alternative crossing points at Murch Lane road bridge and the Stepped footbridge at Eastbrook station.

“Safety is always our number one priority and, following a recent assessment of Brookside level crossing, in Dinas Powys, we’ve identified a level of risk that requires immediate action.

“We appreciate that closing the crossing will be inconvenient for some people and this was not a decision we took lightly. However, given the number of trains using the route and the risks identified, we believe closure is the safest course of action while we explore longer-term solutions.

“We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while these arrangements are in place, and we will provide further updates as soon as possible.”
