Major disruption has been caused to services between Glasgow Central and Neilston, Newton, Cathcart Circle, Barrhead, Kilmarnock and East Kilbride.

Services are currently suspended while Network Rail works to repair damaged overhead line equipment at Muirhouse.

Engineers have been assessing the damage, its cause, and the arrangements needed for repair.

Teams are on site to repair the equipment, but disruption is expected to continue until this evening.

Passengers are advised to plan ahead and check journeys with ScotRail or National Rail.

“We’re really sorry for the disruption this has caused people trying to travel today. We know how busy these routes are and how much people rely on them, so we understand the impact delays like this can have.

“While the cause of the power loss is still being investigated, our teams are on site working through what needs to be done to get things back up and running. We appreciate people bearing with us while we do that and get services back to normal safely.”

Ross Moran, route director at Network Rail Scotland
