Students from Ysgol Y Gogarth have helped create a new permanent artwork at Llandudno railway station, unveiled as part of Railway 200, the campaign celebrating two centuries of the modern railway.

The Additional Learning Needs (ALN) school worked with local artist Mel Roberts of Mazin Mosaics, supported by teaching and support staff, to produce a collection of mosaic panels reflecting life along the Conwy Valley Line. The designs draw on the students’ own travel experiences, railway history, and well-known landmarks across North Wales.

The artwork was produced over 12 weekly workshops funded by Transport for Wales, allowing participants to experiment with colour, texture, and creative design while developing teamwork and practical skills.

Funded by Transport for Wales and delivered by the Conwy Valley and North Wales Coast Community Rail Partnership, the installation was officially unveiled during Community Rail Week, which ran from 1 to 7 June.

Working with the pupils and staff of Ysgol Y Gogarth, and Karen (Community Rail Officer) has been a fulfilling and fun experience.
