Network Rail is making good progress on the new Kirk Hill bridge in Sutton Bonington.

The new bridge will provide more clearance for freight trains and electric trains, and allow the speed restriction on the bridge to be removed.

Engineers have recently installed 14,000 bricks on the new bridge to construct new parapet walls, and since the project began in September 2025, they have been carrying out numerous aspects of the work.

A temporary bridge was installed while the main bridge was demolished, and they worked overnight and on weekends to install components.

Engineers still need to install utility services in the bridge deck and work on drainage.

The A6006 Rempstone Road will still have closures affecting it until late July, with the project still on track for completion in September.
