Research released by Heathrow Express suggests international football tournaments inspire many UK fans to cheer on more than one nation, with 53% saying they adopt a second team alongside their home side.
Among the most popular choices are Spain, Brazil, and Scotland, followed by Portugal, France, and Italy. Nearly three in ten respondents said attractive playing styles influence their choice, while others are swayed by star players or underdog stories. Some simply enjoy picking an extra team to follow.
The study has been published as Heathrow Express introduces a 30% discount offer from 1 June. Passengers can claim the saving with the code JUNE30 during a limited two-week promotion.

The non-stop rail service connects Central London with Heathrow Airport in 15 minutes. The promotional code is valid for bookings made between 1 June and 14 June 2026; bookings made within this time period can be set for journeys between 1 June 2026 and 1 June 2027.
Travellers can also take advantage of advance fares from £10 when booking at least 30 days ahead, while children aged 15 and under travel free when accompanied by a paying adult.
“One match, one player or one unforgettable atmosphere can suddenly put a country on someone’s travel list. With 86% of football fans saying it’s important to get to the airport quickly and easily when travelling overseas for a match, we know the journey before the flight matters just as much as the flight itself.
“Our 30% discount offer is about helping fans start that trip quicker, easier and more affordably – whether they’re flying out for the football, the holiday, or a bit of both.”
Aoife Considine, Business Lead at Heathrow Express.

Given the Heathrow Express fare is already far far higher then the TfL fare on the Elizabeth Line I wonder how this latest discount offer by Heathrow Express stacks up?
But why would anyone going to / from Heathrow wanting the city or East end of London bother with Heathrow express when the Elizabeth line offers a through service ?
And Thameslink services from both North & South offer a simple interchange at Fartingdon into Elizabeth line services going to Heathrow.
